$3500 for 2 515' Bs ?

Jeeze, then I see these are $4350!!!! I've always felt that I was 416 man myself since they go lower in frequency than the 515's

All you're missing is witnessing what a pair of original 515's with red, white, and blue Hollywood labels will bring, those are the expensive ones.

I cant understand why this surprises anyone in this forum. If I didn't have the means to get a set of Altecs any other way I would pay it. There are folks who do not know about GPA or they might want the originals just because. Given the choice between some newer $3500 speakers and the Altecs I would much rather spend my money on what I think is the best. Nothing less will do for me when it comes to audio.

I would really like to see someone make a better sounding speaker so I could have them but in the 40 years I have been listening, it hasn't happened for me.

Its not about money now as much as it is FINDING some. They have been increasing in value for years and unless someone makes something better, they are going to go higher.

High asking price, but at present it's just that, no bid, and not bought. (original link).

The truckload of sets in central PA with the monitor cabs (last year?), went for a mint. Would be good for comparison.

I sold a single, nice 515B, along with a single multicell, 288, and some XO's not too long ago, for the princely sum of $~600 iirc.
Hah. Guess I should have paid for that storage after all.

These are plain old simple 515Bs. The inflated asking price is just because they have been stored and not used. IMHO that means the cones may have sagged. Honestly a figure of c $1200-1500 is more realistic, as if they have been rotated/upended regularly to eliminate sag, then they are almost NOS, thus desirable.
